General New Scooter Warranty Scooter City

This product is intended only for use as and is warranted only as a mobility scooter. A mobility scooter is usually used by an aged or disabled person around their local area where others might usually walk several times a week. All other uses are expressly excluded from this warranty. Commercial operation should seek an alternate warranty available on request.

Without limiting your rights at general law or under any statute the company warrants that:

If defects in material or manufacture occur in this new product during a period of 12 months from the date of sale to the first owner then the company will rectify such defects free of charge at its factory.

The company does not accept liability for any item which fails because of normal wear and tear or abuse or unauthorised modifications or for any defect arising from this product being operated in a manner for which it was not intended or being overloaded.

Not all repairs maintenance or adjustments are a result of faulty materials or manufacture. This warranty does not include such items as paint, trim, chrome and other appearance items nor does it include worn or punctured tyres or wheel alignment. Electromagnetic interference is expressly excluded from this warranty

We do not warrant batteries. Batteries are not universally covered under this warranty. Batteries would usually be covered by a warranty from the individual battery manufacturer. Batteries at the end of the serviceable life or that may have been incorrectly used or charged or maintained or overloaded might not be warranted. Batteries are a consumable item with this product. Regular replacement may be required.

Economy battery packs supplied with this product when new are covered by a statutory 30 day warranty. Premium battery packs are warranty for 6 months on a pro rata basis. A battery monitor system must be installed for the premium warranty. Batteries are a consumable item with this product. Regular replacement may be required.

It remains the owners responsibility to return the product to the company or its appointed dealer before any warranty repairs can be undertaken. This product is a machine and will require regular maintenance. Incorrect maintenance or modifications may void this warranty.

Service warranty. The company may provide up to a 90 day warranty on all servicing and repairs undertaken on a retail basis. This will be noted on the service invoice where applicable. Brands not sold and supported by us from new are excluded.

Used scooter warranty.  The company may provide up to a 30 day warranty on selected used scooters. This will be noted on the sales invoice where applicable. Brands not sold and supported by us from new cannot be warranted.

7 Day Money Back Garauntee for Country Clients. The purpose of this garauntee is to allow the client to view the scooter to confirm it is as pictured and described by the company. It does not replace the usual operational warranty as described above. It forms part of the transaction and must be enacted in writing (letter or email) by both parties before any payments are made or goods shipped.  Upon receiving the scooter and removing the carton the client should make a visual inspection and immediately report any variances from the description and photographs. If the company agrees and gives the client a return authoristion number the client then should replace the packaging and organise for the company to organise return shipping. The cost of shipping to and from will be deducted from the purchase price and and then the remainder of the purchase price returned to the client. Return shipping costs from some locations may be more or less than the delivery cost. No returns will be accepted without written prior authorisation from the company in the form of an email or letter on the companies stationary.

Quality Care Policy

without prejudice

The company does insist that its dealer shall cooperate with the end user and whilst some items that may genuinely not be warranty for whatever reason both the company and its dealers should err more generously but not exclusively to the customers benefit. Users who obviously abuse this generosity may be excluded from this policy. Accident damage or reckless tampering is of course excluded. Goodwill and cooperation between the company and user is desirable. At all times the company is aware that disabled and elderly users do rely heavily on this product and the company will endeavor to make prompt and timely repairs.

The user should understand that due to the ever rising costs of suitably qualified tradesmen and running costs of vehicles along with the obvious financial constraints of the majority of users it is not commercially viable to have excess mechanics and vehicles ready and waiting whilst maintaining relatively ongoing low service charges.

The company appreciates the frustrations experienced in life as a whole by some of our users and with many years of experience we can easily help you cope. However we suggest that cooperation and understanding will achieve more than a cranky outburst against the very people that are employed to assist you.

The warranty is a return to base warranty and a call out fee can be charged for on site service or collection. In many instances a person may be confused about the operation of the scooter or its systems. This callout might be considered an education of the user rather than a warranty fault. In some cases and at the companies discretion the user may receive a waiver on the callout fee on up to two occasions during the warranty term. This applies to only users in the dealers local service area who purchased the scooter new. Users who obviously abuse this policy may be excluded.

The company will cooperate with remote area and regional users on the following basis. The user could at all times after receiving a warranty return advice transport the scooter at the users cost to the dealer for service or repair.

The user with the assistance of a local competent mechanical person or auto electrician could cooperate with the dealer in resolving most issue locally. Data suggests that almost all issues are usually of a minor nature. The company will provide parts and expert advice and may provide the postage on those parts. The company or its dealers are not liable for the users local costs.

3 or 5 Year Warranty. Might not be what you think.

It has come to our attention that some customers believe a particular make of scooter has a 5 year warranty only to find out later it doesn't or the terms and conditions are so complex as to make the warranty worthless. Many companies actively promote that this product has a 5 year warranty at the point of sale as the reason to prefer this brand. I know of many instances where the customers were sure that a common failure (say electronic controller) is covered because they have a 5 year warranty. We certainly take no pleasure in pointing out why it is that there is no warranty on say that part. Usually these warranties are provided in several parts. The 5 year part applies only to the actual steel chassis. Might as well give a 10 year warranty. Its doesn't fail on any scooter. Meanwhile other parts are covered for far less time with ambiguous claims procedures or not at all. Particularly batteries, chargers, motors and electronics. The expensive bits that are more likely to fail. There is no modern DC electric motor of any type that needs a motor brush replacement at 6 months old. Paying $800 to have a new scooter serviced at 6 months old is wrong. Then to find out if you didn't your warranty is now void. This is a matter that should be reported to the ACCC. Before buying check the terms and conditions.Whilst this is not illegal it certainly might be considered low on ethics at best.

Long ago we chose to cease dealing in products that are warranted this way. We take pride in our reputation as a reliable and honest business operating for the past 31 years and it just isn't worth the consumer complaints. What happens if my dealer will no longer honour the warranty or provide service and parts.
This has become a major concern in our industry as dealers and dealer networks fail or face closure. So many operators pop up in our industry making outragious claims of quality on the back of cheap imitation or copy product. Very few have survived or can cope with the amount of issues these imitation products have. Factories have closed and so no parts or technical support may be available. Of course this is why we say deal with Scooter City. Experts in quality products since 1990. But if you didn't. Our workshops can do more than 90% of repairs or maintenance on most brands and even no name scooters. Of course there is a fee for this service but so many people tell us we are such good value. However there is a risk that a crucial part is unavailable at which time your no name scooter is now junk. This does and will continue to happen.
